CES Update 4

Just a quick update. I want to officially say, I love my CES unit. This month my OCD increased a bit but my anxiety hasn’t thanks in large part to the CES device. I do use it high between 3.5 and 5.0 and for an hour at a time. It’s pretty good. I’m impressed! I’m happy to say that I don’t have to increase medication (anti-anxiety meds).

I wanna hear more! I don’t even know what a CES unit is!

CES is Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation. Basically it’s a unit that produces a small current through electrodes that attach to ones ears. The current is really small but passes through the brainstem. It’s been cleared to treat Anxiety, Insomnia and Depression.

My ERP therapist turned me onto it a while back. He had been researching the debate between the “soups vs sparks” (chemical vs electrical) debate in early brain studies. My doctor said that the debate seems to have heated up again. The truth is we aren’t sure how any of the serotonergic medications really work. New research supports the idea that there are multiple serotonin levels in the brain not just one global one. Regardless, a CES unit is just one more thing that we can implement as OCD sufferers. That said CES isn’t fully understood either. In some studies, endorphins and serotonin increased a lot after a session of CES. I might also add, great for headaches!!! That has been by far the least expected and much appreciated side effect. I used to get bad migraines and now virtually migraine free compared to before.
